The energy of dawn pushing away the dark.
The rooster has long been seen as a figure that announces the dawn and drives away the dark.
Within the broad flow of black ink, I placed the red comb and a face that feels playful, but strong, to carry the energy of dawn pushing away the darkness.
The playful spirit found in Korean painting is one of the qualities I am most drawn to.
Rather than describing the rooster’s form clearly, this piece follows the spirit of traditional Korean literati painting.
Instead of copying the subject as it is, I focused on the rooster’s character and meaning.
