Gumiho

Foxfire passing lightly under the blue moon.

This tattoo piece depicts a gumiho and the moon in the style of literati painting.

I used thin, quick lines to capture the fox’s movement, placing the blue moon together with the red flow of foxfire to create a sense of something passing lightly through the scene.

Rather than explaining the mythical presence of the gumiho too heavily, I wanted it to appear naturally through the speed of the brushwork, the empty space, and the flowing lines along the body.

I hoped the movement of the lines and the energy of the foxfire would remain lightly on the skin.
