Thinking About a Text Tattoo in Seoul? Let’s Chat!
Hey everyone! I’m Haesol (해솔), and I’ve been working as a tattoo artist here in Seoul for about 10 years now. Time flies, right? A lot of people ask me about getting tattoos here, so I thought I’d put together a little blog post with some info. If you’re thinking about getting a text tattoo, or any kind of tattoo really, maybe this will help! My studio is near Children’s Grand Park Station – super easy to get to. I get a lot of people asking for text tattoo designs, so it’s something I’m pretty familiar with.
To be honest, a lot of folks reach out because they’re interested in Korean traditional designs, which is what I specialize in. But I also do a bunch of other styles. I’ve noticed more and more people are interested in getting a text tattoo with Korean lettering, which is always fun!
What Kind of Tattoos Do I Actually Do? (Besides text tattoo!)
Okay, so my biggest passion is definitely Korean traditional art. Think Minhwa paintings – those vibrant colors and symbolic images. I love bringing those ancient stories to life on skin. That’s what I spend most of my time doing. But I also enjoy other styles too! A lot of my clients want really delicate fine line work, or black & gray pieces. I also do old school styles and dotwork sometimes, and I find working on minimalist designs really satisfying because it’s all about creating something beautiful with just a few simple lines. And yes, I do a lot of text tattoo requests as well. It’s a pretty popular choice these days!
Of course, hygiene is super important. I use new, sterilized needles for every single client. No exceptions! It’s something I take very seriously. Getting a text tattoo or any tattoo should be a safe and enjoyable experience.
Design Ideas and What’s Popular Right Now
Many people come to me specifically for Korean traditional designs because they want something unique and meaningful. I also get a lot of requests for fine line work, especially floral designs or delicate script. A text tattoo is always a classic, and people often choose quotes that are personally significant. I’ve noticed a trend toward minimalist designs too, small and simple but with a big impact. What I really enjoy is taking someone’s initial idea and creating a custom design that’s perfect for them. When it comes to a text tattoo, the font choice is crucial!
Small designs usually take about 1-2 hours, while larger ones, like a full sleeve, can take multiple sessions. Some designs are harder than others. For example, really intricate patterns or designs with a lot of detail take more time and focus. If you want something really detailed, we might need to do it over several sessions to make sure it looks perfect. I also get asked a lot about color versus black and gray. A lot of people think color hurts more, but to be honest, it doesn’t really make a difference in terms of pain. The placement of the text tattoo is also important – some areas are more sensitive than others!
Finding My Studio: It’s Easier Than You Think!
Okay, so my studio is located near Children’s Grand Park Station. It’s about a 5-minute walk from Exit 3. If you’re coming from Gangnam, it takes about 20 minutes by subway. The area is in the Konkuk/Seongsu neighborhood, so there are lots of cute cafes around if you want to grab a coffee before or after your appointment. I’m also close to Konkuk University, so I do a lot of text tattoo work for students. Lots of people are looking for a Konkuk text tattoo, so they come find me!
Actually, the building can be a little tricky to find the first time. Look for the building with the green awning, it’s right next to the convenience store. If you get lost, just text me on KakaoTalk and I can send you some photos of the entrance. A Seongsu text tattoo is also quite popular, since the area is so trendy.
How to Book an Appointment and What to Expect
The easiest way to reach me is through KakaoTalk or Instagram DM. My Korean is fluent, of course, and I have basic English and basic Chinese for consultations. For really complex designs, we can always use translation apps to make sure we’re on the same page. Usually, we’ll chat about your idea first, and then I’ll sketch something up for you. I want to make sure you’re totally happy with the design before we start. I work by appointment only, and weekends tend to get booked up pretty quickly, so it’s best to book in advance. I accept both cash and card, and the deposit is usually 50,000 won. When you book, tell me you are interested in a text tattoo, so I can prepare some fonts!
Taking Care of Your New Text Tattoo: Important Info
I’ll explain everything in detail after we’re done, but here’s a general overview of how to take care of your new tattoo. This is really important to make sure your text tattoo heals properly!
- Keep the initial wrap on for only 3-4 hours, then remove it. Don’t use wrap again after removal.
- Wash gently with just clean water 2-3 times a day. No regular soap!
- If you want to use a product, get a tattoo-specific aftercare balm and apply it very thinly.
- Absolutely NO swimming (pools, ocean) for at least 2 weeks. Also, avoid hot baths and saunas. And definitely no direct sunlight on your new tattoo.
- No heavy exercise for at least 48 hours. Sweating can cause irritation.
- No alcohol for at least 3 days. It can affect the healing process.
- Don’t over-moisturize. Too much product can clog pores and delay healing.
The surface of the tattoo will heal in about 2-3 weeks, but complete healing takes about a month. Message me anytime if you have any concerns. I’m always here to help! It’s critical to follow aftercare advice for a text tattoo, so the lettering stays crisp and clear.
Before You Come to My Studio…
There are a few things you should do to prepare for your appointment. Eat a good meal before coming. It really helps with the process. NO alcohol the night before or the day of your appointment. It can affect bleeding and healing. Please bring your ID or passport, as it’s required by law. And try to get a good night’s sleep – being well-rested helps. A text tattoo session can be tiring!
Small tattoos usually take about 1-2 hours, while palm-sized ones might take 3-4 hours. Wear comfortable clothes that allow easy access to the tattoo area. If you’re sick or taking blood thinners, please let me know, as we might need to reschedule. And please send me your design ideas on KakaoTalk or Instagram before you come, so I can be prepared. And let me know if you are interested in a text tattoo, so I can start thinking of fonts! A lot of clients ask me for a text tattoo near Children’s Grand Park – I’m happy to help!
