Onsil Ink is an English-speaking Korean tattoo studio in Seoul. Artist
Haesol Choi (최해솔) consults in English and Korean, specializes in minhwa (민화,
Korean folk painting) tattoo — magpie-and-tiger, crane and pine, peony — and works
near Konkuk University Station, Gwangjin-gu, eastern Seoul, by appointment.
There is no language barrier for the design conversation: you describe the motif and intention
in English, share references, and Haesol drafts the composition.

How the consultation works in English
- Send your request in English — which motif speaks to you (or the meaning you want to carry),
reference images, approximate placement, and your travel window in Seoul. - Haesol replies in English, drafts a composition, and you discuss revisions by email or KakaoTalk.
- Everything is agreed before you travel, so the session runs smoothly on the day.
Japanese inquiries are handled via translation (reply in English or Korean).
A Korean style, explained in plain English
Onsil works in minhwa — Korean folk painting reinterpreted as tattoo. The
motifs come from folk screens and household talismans (the magpie-and-tiger for protection-with-humour,
the peony for prosperity, the ten symbols of longevity), which makes it a distinct tradition from the
dancheong-colour style and from Japanese irezumi. If you want a Korean tattoo and want to understand
exactly what it means, the consultation walks you through the symbolism in English.
The same artist’s traditional practice
This site (Mini Ink Seoul) covers casual, minimalist line work. For the full Korean traditional /
minhwa practice — the larger, motif-rich pieces — the same artist runs
Onsil Ink. International visitors: see the
visitor guide for the booking workflow from abroad.
FAQ
Do I need to speak Korean to get a tattoo here?
No. Haesol consults in English and Korean; Japanese is possible via translation. Bring photo
references — they communicate faster than language. The reply window is short and the whole design
conversation can happen in English before you arrive.
Is the studio used to international clients?
Yes. The booking workflow is built around remote, English-language design conversations for
visitors, with the in-person session scheduled during your Seoul trip.
Where is the studio?
Near Konkuk University Station (건대입구역), Gwangjin-gu, eastern Seoul — a short ride from the
Seongsu district. By appointment only; the exact address is shared on booking confirmation.
